  Northeast Area VP
Karstyn Cantrell

Hello, my name is Karstyn Cantrell, and I am blessed to be serving the Oklahoma FFA Association as the 2020-21 Northeast Area vice president.

This fall I will attend Oklahoma State University to double major in agricultural education and agricultural communications.

I am the daughter of Steve and Michelle Cantrell, sister to Parker and friend to many as I call Collinsville, Oklahoma, home. During my high school years, I found my second home in the Skiatook FFA agricultural education facilities, where I competed in livestock exhibition, agricultural communications career development event and so many more events, like public speaking, dairy judging and opening ceremonies.

From an early age growing up on a third-generation cow calf operation, I knew that the agricultural industry would be a large part of my life, but I was unaware just how many doors it would open and how many doors I would walk into and never walk out of.

You see, in my family everyone showed cattle, and by that, I mean they spent every waking moment in the barn getting cattle prepared and fine-tuning their showmanship skills. Now that I think about it, however, not everyone lived their life that way.

I spent my time in The Skiatook FFA CDE Room. This is a room that is designed specifically for students to use their time preparing for their speeches, researching for the greenhand quiz contest, studying for their upcoming CDE and LDE competitions or simply reciting the opening ceremony officer positions over and over. This is the room I called home, and what better way to have a home than to fill it with the people closest to you, my agricultural education instructors? Steve Soules and Cody Nieman are credited with creating this environment that students can learn/excel in and creating a door that I could walk through to change my life.

I am thankful that I found a door to a room that held growth, learning opportunities and a way to pinpoint my passion of talking and teaching. The Skiatook FFA chapter brought me many great friends, long talks in the ag truck and important lessons and brought me to my new goals that are in a new door.
